Although it is great you can retain the .heic versions of photos—which are of higher compression, lower file size, yet better quality than .jpeg—when importing them, they are saved as both the .heic file and a .mov file associated to the .heic file, in which the .mov file is essentially the same as the Live Photo, which is essentially a video.
The consequence of the above means it is difficult to distinguish between actual videos taken and Live Photos, since both are saved as .mov files. This can be a nightmare for someone like me who has ~350 GB worth of photos and videos, and plans to compile some of them, for a longer video for example.
So perhaps a good solution would be to be able to import/backup photos solely as .heic files, without the .mov file associated to them, or if both need to be imported, that the .mov files are somehow isolated within their own folder, or given distinct filenames to segregate them from actual videos taken, and not Live Photos.
